What to expect from an in-home newborn photography session in Surrey, London or Berkshire
Welcoming a new baby into the family is such a special and emotional time — and one of the loveliest things about in-home newborn photography is being able to capture those early days exactly as they really felt.
My newborn sessions are relaxed, natural and completely baby-led, taking place in the comfort of your own home so there’s no need to pack bags, rush out of the house or worry about timings around feeds and naps.
I photograph newborn sessions across Surrey and South West London, focusing on genuine connection, tiny details and the beautiful in-between moments that families will want to remember forever.
A calm and relaxed experience
One of the biggest concerns many parents have before a newborn session is whether their baby will “behave” — but honestly, there is absolutely no pressure for babies to sleep, settle quickly or perform in any way.
Newborn sessions are intentionally slow-paced and flexible, with plenty of time for:
- feeding
- cuddles
- nappy changes
- settling breaks
- comforting baby whenever needed
The aim is simply to create a calm environment where your family can relax and enjoy being together.
Natural Newborn Photography at home
I use natural light and gently guide families into comfortable, natural interactions rather than stiff posing.
That means your gallery will include:
- cuddles on the sofa or bed
- parents holding baby naturally
- sibling moments
- tiny fingers, eyelashes and newborn details
- relaxed family portraits
- real connection and emotion
Your home does not need to look perfect
Many families worry their home is:
- too small
- too dark
- too cluttered
But I’m very used to working in family homes of all shapes and sizes and finding the best light and spaces to create beautiful images.
What should you wear?
I usually recommend soft, neutral tones and comfortable clothing that feels like “you”.
Creams, beige, soft browns, muted greens and warm earthy tones tend to photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection and emotion rather than busy patterns or logos.
Most importantly, I want you to feel comfortable and relaxed.
Including Siblings
Sibling moments are often some of the sweetest parts of a newborn session.
Toddlers and young children are never expected to sit perfectly or smile at the camera constantly — I gently incorporate play, cuddles and movement to keep things relaxed and natural.
Some of the most meaningful photographs come from those authentic little interactions between siblings.
I always send out a pre-session questionnaire to get to know my families better and included are questions about older siblings interests. I try to bring toys, play music or start games or conversations with them that they’ll enjoy to help them feel relaxed and make it enjoyable for everyone.
When should you book a newborn session?
Most families book during pregnancy (after the 20 week scan), to reserve space around their due date, although I always try my best to accommodate last-minute enquiries where possible.
Newborn sessions typically take place within the first two weeks after birth, but beautiful, meaningful images can absolutely still be captured later too.
